Introduction

Piraeus Port, the largest port in Greece, plays a crucial role in international maritime transport, handling over 15 million passengers annually. 

The port faced significant challenges in managing its extensive lighting infrastructure and utility consumption. Traditional methods lacked the technological oversight required for efficient management, leading to high energy consumption and reliance on manual processes. To address these issues, Piraeus Port turned to Tondo for a comprehensive solution.

Challenges

The port’s street lighting and utility management were complex and inefficient, primarily due to the lack of real-time data and automated control. Without technological management, the infrastructure could not provide critical information on energy consumption, grid quality, or fault detection. Additionally, the manual measurement of electricity and water consumption by ships increased operational inefficiencies and the potential for human error.

Solution Overview: Tondo Cloud IQ, Tondo Edge IQ Smart Lighting, and Tondo Cabinet IQ Energy Analytics

Data Collection: Continuous monitoring of energy consumption and electricity grid quality using Tondo’s Cabinet IQ advanced energy analytics and SCADA control capabilities.

Remote Control: Management of electricity circuits via Cabinet IQ’s SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) capabilities, lighting control via Tondo Edge IQ fixture-based controls, and features like an astronomical clock and customizable scenarios in Tondo’s Cloud IQ central management system enable the delivery of safer, energy-efficient lighting.

Maintenance Alerts: Cloud IQ provides instant notifications for faults at the circuit or cabinet level, ensuring quick response and resolution.

Infrastructure Protection: Cloud IQ and Cabinet IQ monitors lighting cabinet physical integrity, including alerts for unauthorized access or tampering.

Improved Efficiency: The deployment of these systems facilitates automatic measurement and billing of utility consumption by ships, reducing labor costs and improving accuracy.
